Couple pleads not guilty to child abuse allegation


SEREMBAN: A couple claimed trial at the Sessions Court here on a charge of abusing a five-year-old boy.

The victim’s mother, 25, and stepfather, 29, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read to them before judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi.

They allegedly committed the offence at a house in Mantin between April 2022 and March 23 of this year.

Both the accused had allegedly used a cane and clothes hanger to cause injury to the boy.

They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 which carries a jail term of up to 20 years or a fine of up to RM50,000 or both upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Syamimi Farhana Muhammad A. Aziz offered each of the accused a bail of RM20,000 pending the next mention.

The couple was unrepresented.Meor Sulaiman allowed the two to be released on a bail of RM5,000 with one surety each and fixed May 17 for the next mention.
