Muar shoplots badly damaged in early morning blaze

MUAR: Two double-storey shoplots along Jalan Arab here were severely damaged by a fire that broke out in the wee hours of Wednesday (April 3).

Muar fire station operations commander Shahrizal Mokhtar said they received a distress call at 2.52am.

“A total of 24 firemen from the Muar, Pagoh and Bukit Gambir stations were immediately deployed.

“We also sent three fire rescue tender vehicles, two emergency medical rescue service vehicles and a fire rapid vehicle to the scene," he added.

The blaze was prevented from spreading to other shops and brought under control at 4.44am, he added.

“One shop, which measures 40 by 80 feet (12.19m by 24.38m), sustained 85% damage while the other shop, which has an area of 40 by 100 feet (30.48m), was 95% burnt.

“No one was injured during the incident,” he said, adding that the department was investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the total value of the damage.
