Sultan Sharafuddin Idris launches Selangor-Gaza Ihsan Development Fund

PETALING JAYA: Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has launched the Selangor-Gaza Ihsan Development Fund as part of efforts to help rebuild Gaza.

His Royal Highness announced that the fund is a joint initiative between the Selangor government and the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim).

"The goal of the newly launched fund is to collect at least RM8.7mil in donations that will be used to fund three development projects in Gaza.

"Together, let the people of Selangor join hands to help reduce the burden and suffering of the people in Gaza from the destruction caused by the war," he said in a press release on Thursday (March 28).

The three development projects include the construction of a block of apartments (RM3mil), a mosque (RM4mil) and a water tower (RM1.7mil).

Sultan Sharafuddin noted that the fund has since received RM1.2mil from the Selangor Muslim Fund and RM200,000 from the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS).

Sultan Ibrahim also said that the Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari made a personal contribution of RM50,000.

"I have also ordered that the gathering and channelling of these funds be done by the

Selangor Muslim Community Infak Fund.

"This is to ensure the management and allocation of the fund is done appropriately, responsibly, smoothly and transparently," he said.
