Sabah Electricity racing to repair Kimanis generator

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is working against the clock to repair an independent power producer's generator set (genset) in Kimanis.

Sabah and Labuan Grid System Operator managing director Adrian Mosigil said load shedding had to be activated at eight locations – Sandakan, Tawau, Semporna, Kinabatangan, Papar, Tuaran, Sipitang and here – after the genset broke down on Tuesday (March 26), causing a 95MW power loss from the grid.

“We hope the power supply will return to normal on Wednesday (March 27),” he said in a statement.

Adrian added that the scorching heat in Sabah and Labuan is expected to increase electricity usage, putting more pressure on the grid system.

The highest energy demand was recorded at 1,128MW on Tuesday.
