Cops catch early bird thieves red-handed

PETALING JAYA: Several foreign snatch thieves who target people leaving their homes for work in the early morning have been busted by the police.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Shahrulnizam Ja’afar said two foreign men and a foreign woman were detained in connection with several snatch theft cases in the Kelana Jaya area.

“We initially detained the two men at the side of the road in Kelana Jaya at 6am on March 17.

“Both suspects on a motorcycle attempted to escape by ramming into a police motorcycle. However, they were thwarted and successfully detained,” he said.

Several items were seized, including helmets, shoes, jewellery and mobile phones, ACP Shahrulnizam said.

“Further investigation led to the arrest of the foreign woman on the same day,” he said.

“She was the go-to person for the two suspects to pawn stolen items.

“The successful arrests of the suspects were due to cooperation from the public.

“We hope the public will continue to supply relevant information to the police in our efforts to curb crime.”
