Upko to celebrate 30th anniversary in August, says Ewon

PENAMPANG: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) will be hosting a celebration marking its 30th anniversary on Aug 9, said its president, Datuk Ewon Benedick (pic).

The Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister said that Upko will also hold its annual convention on Aug 10, with the Upko Kaamatan (Harvest) Festival celebration scheduled for May 11 and 12.

"This programme will be hosted by Beaufort Upko and will take place in Kuala Penyu," he told reporters after chairing the Upko Executive Committee meeting here on Sunday (March 24).

When asked about the party's preparations for the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election, he said that as a component party in the Unity Government, Upko consistently provides views and positions so that any arising issues can be discussed openly and maturely.

"I believe the leadership of Upko and PH (Pakatan Harapan) can make the best decisions. PH should have a reasonable space at the state level, this is Upko's view," he said, adding that Upko currently has over 160,000 registered members.

Earlier, at the same event, Ewon handed over a party membership card to former Senator Adrian Lasimbang, who has rejoined Upko.

Ewon said that Adrian's re-entry, being active in non-governmental organisations (NGOs) particularly involving environmental issues, would add value to Upko. - Bernama
