Let’s move on from socks issue and learn from it, says Dr Wee

JOHOR BARU: It is time to move on from the socks controversy and learn a lesson from it, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said he agrees with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that the country should move on from the controversy.

“His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has issued a decree, and the Prime Minister has also given his views and advice.

“Our top leaders, including the King, have given their statements and advice. So, I think it is time for all of us Malaysians to do the same. Let us heed His Majesty’s decree.

“I also agree with the Prime Minister that we should move on. We live in a diverse community, and of course, we must take religious and racial sensitivity very seriously,” he said in response to a question on the issue.

Dr Wee said this at a press conference after chairing the Johor MCA meeting at its headquarters here on Friday (March 22).

He said Malaysians should work towards getting closer and understand each other better.

“A lesson must be learnt from this incident.

"As Malaysians, we must respect each other. What is wrong is still wrong.

"But, I don’t think we should dwell on this. Let’s move on,” he said.
