Man dies fleeing from house on fire, brother suffers burns


KUANTAN: A man died in a fire while his younger brother suffered burns on his hand at Felda Tersang Satu in Raub.

Pahang Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Dr Wan Mohammad Zaidi Wan Isa said the victim, Abd Shukur Abdullah Suhaimin, 46, died at the scene yesterday behind the house while trying to flee the blaze.

He said the department received a distress call at 1.42am, adding that 15 firefighters from the Raub and Sungai Koyan fire stations were rushed to the scene, located 38km away.

“In the incident, Abd Shukur reportedly died after he was believed to have fallen on the ground behind the house while trying to flee, while his younger brother Abdul Hadi, 39, suffered burns on his hand,” he said in a statement, Bernama reported.

In Kedah, an express bus driver died while six others survived in an accident at KM75.2 of the North-South Expressway in Gurun yesterday.

Guar Chempedak Fire and Rescue Station chief Asst Fire Supt Mohd Fauzi Razali said they received an emergency call at 4.02am after the collision between an express bus and a trailer.

He said the rescue team arrived at the location at 4.19am, adding that the charred body of the 42-year-old male bus driver was found trapped in his seat.

“Five victims, including the assistant bus driver, all aged between 19 and 57, and a 32-year-old trailer driver survived.”
