Noreeny aims to inspire plus-size women to be self-confident.
IN a society where plus-size women often grapple with low self-esteem and body shaming, nurse Noreeny Manggie’s story stands as a beacon of hope.
Having once weighed 89kg, Noreeny defied the odds, shedding weight and embracing a newfound confidence that led her to be crowned Miss Plus World Malaysia 2024 All-Nation Ambassador.
Noreeny, who works at the dental clinic of Hospital Kanowit in Sarawak, recounts the challenges she faced.
“My weight ballooned in 2014 after giving birth.
“To compound matters, I developed scoliosis, plunging me into a world of pain and physical limitations,” she said.
Enduring excruciating pain and grappling with health issues, Noreeny’s resilience shone through.
“I was in and out of hospital for almost two years, grappling with misdiagnoses and treatments.
“But through sheer determination and following medical advice, I managed to stabilise my weight and regain control over my health,” she explained.
Noreeny’s transformation wasn’t just physical – it was a testament to her unwavering spirit and determination.
“I stopped accepting steroids and made significant changes to my diet, bidding farewell to rice and sugary treats. It was a sacrifice, but one that ultimately paid off,” she said.
Noreeny, who lives in Sibu with two children aged 14 and 10, will have a busy year as Miss Plus World Malaysia 2024 All-Nation Ambassador and her mission to inspire others.
“My role is to empower women, especially those who struggle with confidence due to their size.
“I want to remind them that beauty transcends physical appearance – it resides within,” she affirmed.
With a busy year ahead, Noreeny plans to leverage her platform to uplift and motivate others.
“Through inspirational talks and engagements, I aim to instill self-esteem and confidence in women of all sizes.
“Size is merely a number – it’s the strength of character and inner beauty that truly matter,” she emphasised, echoing a message of empowerment and self-love.
