42-year-old driver dies in car crash with lorry in Semporna


KOTA KINABALU: A 42-year-old man was killed when his car met with an accident with a 10-tonne lorry along Jalan Semporna-Tawau on Thursday (March 7).

The body of Mohd Safri Jafri was pulled out from the car by the Fire and Rescue Department team before he was pronounced dead on location at Ladang Pinang, Kilometre 55 there.

The 33-year-old lorry driver, meanwhile, was reported to be safe.

An emergency call came in earlier at 2.30pm regarding the incident involving the lorry and a sedan car where a team from Semporna fire station rushed over, assisted by the police and Health Ministry staff on site.

"The body has been handed over to the police for further action.

"After ensuring there were no more risks, the operation ended at 3.46pm," said the department spokesman.
