Two killed, five injured in crash near KK


KOTA KINABALU: Two people were killed in a collision between a car and a 10-tonne lorry along Jalan Sandakan, on Saturday (March 2) afternoon.

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations, Kenneth Wilfred, said the victims - Kamaludin Jaffren, 35, and Indonesian Nurul Hidayah Abd Rahim, were pronounced dead on the scene when medical officials arrived.

"Five other victims - three in the car and two from the lorry - sustained injuries while two others in the lorry escaped unscathed," he said in a statement.

"We received a distress call at 12.53pm and a team was sent to respond," said Kenneth.

He said the bodies of the deceased were handed over to police for further action while the five injured people were sent to the hospital for treatment.

Operations on the ground were completed at 2.18pm.
