S’gor teams bag top spot in hockey tournament

TEAMS from Selangor emerged as champions in a national-level hockey competition for Tamil schools, Malaysia Nanban reported.

Sixteen teams from seven states participated in the two-day tournament at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.The second edition of the annual event was organised by the Impak Hockey Club and Malaysia Hockey Federation, and sponsored by QNET Malaysia.Each of the winning teams took home a trophy, certificate and RM1,000.

Selangor’s standout player Santosh emerged the top scorer and player of the tournament for the boys’ category.

For the girls, Johor player K. Mahaletchumi won the top scorer prize while Selangor’s Harshini was selected as best player.

Aarathi, 32, who lived in Alappuzha, Kerala, was leaving for work when she was confronted by Shiamjit, 37.After a fight, the man blocked his wife’s scooter before dousing her and the vehicle with petrol and setting her ablaze.The woman was rushed to the hospital but died two days later.

The police are investigating the incident.
