Ampang man bludgeoned his 74-year-old mother while she slept, say cops

AMPANG JAYA: A senior citizen was bludgeoned by her own son with a steering lock, leading to serious injuries to the head.

In a statement on Wednesday (Feb 21), Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azam Ismail said that the 74-year-old woman was attacked at a house in Jalan Bunga Melor on Jan 20.

The senior citizen was sleeping at the time when at 12.30am the suspect attacked her with a steering lock.

This led to injuries to her head and teeth, he said, adding that she survived the attack.

"A sibling of the suspect was also injured during an attempt to stop the attack.

"The motive behind the attack is believed to have been over the suspect being unhappy that a shoe cabinet had blocked his path to his room," he said.

A 36-year-old man was arrested later in the day. The man, who is unemployed, tested negative for drugs.

He also had no history of mental illness, but investigations showed that he and his mother were not on good terms.

"He has been remanded until Feb 27," he said.
