French man rescued after eight-hour ordeal in Teluk Bahang


BALIK PULAU: A French man who lost his way during a hike at the Penang National Park in Teluk Bahang has been rescued after an eight-hour ordeal.

A Fire and Rescue Department spokesman in Penang said they received an emergency call from Younes Oukali, 37, at 6.07pm on Monday (Feb 19) informing them that he was lost.

He said a search and rescue operation was mounted for the victim immediately.

"The victim could be contacted on his mobile phone and this facilitated the search," he said when contacted on Tuesday (Feb 20).

He said the victim was rescued at 1.22am on Tuesday and taken to hospital for further examination.

Seventeen firemen from the Balik Pulau Fire and Rescue Station were involved in the search and rescue operation. – Bernama
