DSP and Sarjan nabbed after testing positive for drugs, but back on duty

GEORGE TOWN: A senior police officer and a sarjan were detained on Friday (Feb 16) after their urine tests came back positive for drugs, although no narcotics were found in their possession.

Penang deputy police chief Datuk Mohamed Usof Jan Mohamad said the 39-year-old Deputy Supt and 42-year-old sarjan from the Central Seberang Prai district headquarters tested positive for benzo and THC.

"The Bukit Aman Integrity and Standards Compliance Department and the district team had a meeting and at the same time conducted a drug screening on all officers present.

"Police later detained the two for 24 hours but a magistrate turned down a remand order, declaring that they were still in service and could attend investigations at any time they are required,” he told a press conference here on Monday (Feb 19).

Mohamed Usof added that the two were still on duty as no directive was issued to suspend them, pending results of the pathology report. – Bernama
