SHAH ALAM: A five-year-old girl has died after being accidentally left in a car by her mother at the Hospital Shah Alam parking lot.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said investigation showed that the mother, who is a hospital employee, had accidentally left the child in the car after picking her up from a daycare centre at about 2pm on Tuesday.
“The child was asleep when she was left in the car with the engine turned off,” he said in a statement yesterday.
The 32-year-old mother, said ACP Mohd Iqbal, only realised that she had left her daughter in the car when contacted by her husband at about 6pm the same day.
“The victim, who was unconscious, was then rushed to Hospital Shah Alam’s emergency department.
“Medical personnel attempted to save her but she was pronounced dead during treatment.”
ACP Mohd Iqbal added that a post-mortem was conducted at about 2pm on Wednesday.
“The post-mortem result is pending laboratory investigations. Checks on the victim’s body did not reveal any external or internal injury,” he said.
Police, he added, received a report at about 8pm on Tuesday.
ACP Mohd Iqbal said the case had been classified under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act.
