IPOH: The police have arrested a security guard at a primary school in Teluk Intan for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old girl.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Ahmad Adnan Basri said the 45-year-old man was arrested after receiving a report from another security guard at the school on Wednesday (Jan 31) at about 10am.

ACP Ahmad Adnan said the man had allegedly tried to hug and outrage the modesty of the pupil in front of a classroom at about 6.30am.

"The complainant was making his rounds at the premises when he stumbled upon the incident.

"After getting the report, we rushed over and arrested the suspect," he said in a statement.

"According to the victim, the suspect had tried to molest her at the school several times.

"From our interrogation with the suspect, he confessed to being involved," he added.

ACP Ahmad Adnan said the police had obtained an order from the Teluk Intan Magistrate Court to remand the suspect to facilitate further investigations under Section 14(4) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act.

"He will be remanded for six days until Feb 6.

"The investigation paper will be referred to the deputy public prosecutor's office with a recommendation to press charges," he said, adding that the suspect could be jailed for up to 20 years and whipped if convicted.
