JOHOR BARU: More than 3,700 affordable homes will be offered to middle-income earners or the M40 group in Iskandar Puteri.

Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi said those in the M40 bracket were always sidelined when it came to house ownership.

"A total of 3,746 housing units will be offered, where 1,008 will go to targeted groups.

"From the 1,008 units, 700 apartment units are priced below RM400,000 each, and 308 terrace houses are priced below RM500,000.

"This project is a continuation of the Eco Botanic 2 project that was well-received, especially among the bumiputra in the M40 group. More than 94% of the units have been sold since Precincts 1 and 2 were launched in 2001," he said in a statement here on Thursday (Jan 18).

Onn Hafiz added that the state would carry this effort through the Eco Botanic 3 mixed development project to provide M40 earners a chance to own premium and exclusive properties at strategic locations such as EduPark East and EduPark West in Iskandar Puteri.

He said these areas, spanning 97.2ha, belong to Iskandar Investment Bhd (IIB).

Earlier, the Johor government, through Perbadanan Kumpulan Perumahan Johor (PKPJ) in collaboration with Permodalan Darul Ta'zim Sdn Bhd (PDT), IIB's subsidiary River Retreat Sdn Bhd, and EcoWorld Development Group Bhd inked an agreement to develop houses for middle-income earners.

Onn Hafiz added that a letter of understanding was signed between PKPJ and PDT to focus on providing bumiputra in the M40 group home ownership opportunities.
