Be quick to respond, Selangor MB tells civil servants

SHAH ALAM: Noting the high expectations of people living in a digitalised Selangor, Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has implored civil servants in the state to be quick and prompt in responding to matters of public interest.

“We are like a glasshouse where everything done and carried out must be explained and clarified, and decisions have to be quick,” the Mentri Besar said in his New Year’s message delivered at the state secretariat’s Dewan Jubli Emas here yesterday.

He said the perception and needs of people in Selangor were different than those in other states.

He reminded civil servants to respond quickly to any issue relevant to the public, more so if it has been circulating on social media.

“The state’s government departments must make quick decisions where possible, as all eyes are on the administration,” he added.

Amirudin told civil servants that there was a need to keep up with the times as Selangor is a digitalised state.

It offers 24-hour services through its various applications, but civil servants are required to work only between seven and eight hours daily, he added.

“Hence, there have to be some adjustments accordingly, with everyone being prepared to work after-hours should the need arise,” said Amirudin.

He also said there has to be someone to take over duties when a department head goes on leave.

“I don’t want excuses that working hours are over. We have to be prepared to ensure that everything is met and adhered to,” he said.

Selangor, he added, is a melting pot with many people coming to live here due to the state’s prosperity and economic activities.

“They also bring with them hope, opinions and lifestyles which all differ (among the various communities), but we have to harmonise these,” he said.

He said differences must not become a catalyst for “others” to use as identity politics to divide the people of Selangor.

Later, Amirudin told a press conference that explosives will not be used to demolish the Shah Alam Stadium.

“It will be carried out manually to prevent any untoward incidents that could adversely affect residents in the Section 13 locality where the stadium is situated,” he said, adding that the demolition work will start as soon as the Section 13 Tenaga Nasional Bhd substation is relocated.
