Cops nab 77 in raid on JB entertainment outlet


JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 77 people, including 74 foreign women suspected of working as guest relations officers (GROs), in a raid on an entertainment outlet in Stulang Laut here.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the raid was conducted at 2.45am on Sunday (Jan 14).

“We arrested 74 foreign women, aged between 22 and 45, from Thailand, Vietnam and Laos for working without a legal permit.

“We also arrested three locals, including another woman. Two of them work at the outlet as a manager and cashier respectively.

"(They were detained) for violating the operating terms of an entertainment outlet and employing foreign workers without valid permits.

“The third local suspect is a male customer who is wanted for a cheating case under Section 420 of the Penal Code,” he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 15).

Comm Kamarul Zaman added that the case was being investigated under Section 11(2) of the Johor Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Enactment, Rule 39b of the Immigration Regulations 1963, as well as Sections 55B, 6(1)(c) and 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1969/63.
