Floods: Batu Pahat latest district in Johor to be affected


JOHOR BARU: Batu Pahat has become the seventh district in Johor to be hit with floods, resulting in the number of flood victims increasing slightly to 8,257.

As of 9am on Wednesday (Jan 10), the state had 8,221 evacuees housed at 53 relief centres.

According to the state disaster management committee, two temporary flood relief centres were opened at Balairaya Parit Suratman in Sri Gading and Sekolah Kebangsaan Bukit Kuari in Ayer Hitam at 11am.

“As of 1pm, the total number of temporary flood relief centres that have been opened in affected districts stand at 55, which currently houses 8,257 victims from 2,279 families.

“Kota Tinggi still has the highest number of evacuees at 4,739 followed by Johor Baru (1,955), Kluang (1,308), Segamat (99), Kulai (86), Batu Pahat (48) and Pontian (22),” the statement reads here on Wednesday (January 10).

The committee also said that the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) also issued a thunderstorm warning for Kulai,Kota Tinggi, Kluang, and Mersing.
