Cabinet reshuffle: Two crucial ministries split into four new portfolios

PETALING JAYA: The new Cabinet line-up saw changes in several portfolios, where two former ministries were split into four new ministries.

Among them was the former Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Ministry, which is now divided into the Energy Transition and Public Utilities Ministry, and the Natural Resources and Sustainability Ministry.

The Energy Transition and Public Utilities Ministry will be helmed by Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who is Deputy Prime Minister, and his deputy will be Akmal Nasrullah Mohd nasir.

Akmal Nasrullah was formerly the Local Government Development Minister.

The Natural Resources and Sustainability Ministry will be led by Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and his deputy will be Datuk Seri Huang Tiong Sii.

Nik was the former Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister, while Huang is his former deputy.

Meanwhile, the Communications and Digital Ministry has also split into two new portfolios - Digital Ministry and the Communications Ministry.

According to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the new Digital Minister is Gobind Singh Deo and his deputy is Datuk Ugak Kumbong, who was formerly a deputy minister at the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak affairs, and special functions).

Fahmi Fadzil will be made Communications Minister and his deputy is Teo Nie Ching.

The former Communications and Digital Ministry was helmed by Fahmi and his deputy was Teo.

The Cabinet formed by the Unity Government in December last year consists of 28 ministers and 27 deputy ministers, including the Prime Minister and two deputy prime ministers.

Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was prime minister for 17 months from March 2020, had appointed 32 ministers and 38 deputies.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who took over the reins in August 2021, had a Cabinet of 31 ministers with 38 deputies.
