Two women killed in four-vehicle accident


ALOR SETAR: Two women were killed and three others injured in a four vehicle pile-up involving a 10-tonne lorry along Jalan Kolon, Pokok Sena near here.

Romadiah Ismail, 65, and Nadzifah Abu Seman, 28, who were travelling in the same car, died on the spot.

Their bodies have to be extricated from the mangled car by rescue personnel.

Fire and Rescue Department Head of Zone 1 (Kedah) Senior Fire Supt I Ahmad Aminudin Abd Rahim told Bernama that the crash occurred at about 9.55am yesterday.

“We received a call about the incident at 9.59am and upon arrival at the scene, we saw an accident involving four vehicles.

“The lorry is believed to have skidded and crashed into three cars.

“Three teams from the Alor Setar, Pokok Sena and Kuala Nerang fire and rescue stations were deployed to the scene,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The bodies were handed over to the police while the injured were sent to Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah for treatment.

Details of the crash and other victims are expected to be released by the police.
