Mind your manners, MPs told

DEPUTY Speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor (pic) told MPs to mind their manners when they participate in debates in the Dewan Rakyat.

He said the Dewan Rakyat is also known as the honourable house.

“Are you able to demonstrate honourable behaviour when you are debating?” he asked the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

Earlier, Speaker Tan Sri Dr Johari Abdul urged MPs to do away with party politics during their debates and improve the quality of their speeches.

During a televised interview on Wednesday, Johari said every MP is responsible for what their constituents want, and as their representative, MPs should not merely act as champions of their party but for all the people.

“MPs are paid to come to the Dewan Rakyat to speak on behalf of the people,” he added.
