Over 5,000 flood-prone locations identified


KUALA NERUS: More than 5,000 flood-prone locations during the northeast monsoon season this year has been identified, with Sarawak having the highest number with 1,066 of such spots.

This is followed by Sabah (798), Pahang (750), Johor (745), Kelantan (617), Perak (286) and 271 locations in Selangor.

Civil Defence Force (APM) chief commissioner Datuk Aminurrahim Mohamed said the agency had identified a total of 5,648 areas nationwide.

Aminurrahim said also flood-prone are 260 locations in Kedah, Terengganu (258), Penang (241), Melaka (124), Negri Sembilan (120), Kuala Lumpur (73), Perlis (22) and 17 locations in Labuan.

Aminurrahim reminded residents in the identified areas to constantly be on alert, prepare documents and emergency items in advance in case of floods or other disasters.

“Households should adhere to advice from security personnel and cooperate with them,” he said, reported Bernama.

Aminurrahim said APM had conducted a total of 6,266 emergency and flood preparedness training sessions for the public this year, which saw more than 300,000 individuals comprising community leaders, villagers, university and college students participating.
