Govt upping efforts to encourage youth to join agro-food sector


IPOH: More efforts and programmes will be held to encourage youth in the country to join the agro-food sector.

Agriculture and Food Security Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said among the programmes was the National Farmers, Breeders and Fisherman's Day where four new concepts were introduced.

"The four new concepts are Agro Millennial, Agro Tech and Innovation, Sejahtera Madani and Agro Madani.

"Under Agro Millennial, we will offer job opportunities and education in the agriculture sector, sharing the success of young people," he said during his opening speech at HPPNK at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah here on Saturday (Nov 11).

"Meanwhile Agro Tech and Innovation offers high-end agro tech, agriculture innovation, animal husbandry, fisheries, internet of things (IOT) and agricultural sustainability including segments in climate change and food waste," he said.

Mohamad added that the Sejahtera Madani will focus on six main segments including various programmes and activities with farmers and fishermen.

"The last concept is Agro Madani will focus on a variety of agricultural sales products, agro-based industries and floriculture," he said.
