Man arrested after threatening cook with long machete


BUKIT MERTAJAM: A man was apprehended for allegedly threatening a cook with a long machete at a restaurant here on Friday (Oct 20).

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Cheng Shan said the suspect in his 40s was nabbed at his house in Taman Kota Permai on the same day the crime was committed.

"During the arrest, police also seized a long machete believed to have been used by the suspect in the incident," he said in a statement on Saturday (Oct 21).

ACP Tan said in the 7.55am incident, the suspect went to the restaurant where the victim worked and pointed the long machete in the direction of the victim.

The victim who was cooking ran to save himself but several customers who were at the restaurant managed to resolve the incident before it escalated further.

ACP Tan said the victim knew the suspect and did not suffer any injuries from the incident.

He also said the suspect was apprehended after a police report was lodged by the victim.

Meanwhile, the crime motive is being investigated by the police.

The case is being classified under Section 506 for criminal intimidation.
