Undocumented foreigners caught by MMEA patrol unit near Tanjung Rhu

MELAKA: Nine undocumented foreigners from Indonesia were apprehended by the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) near Tanjung Rhu coastline in Selangor while attempting to illegally enter the country.

MMEA's Melaka and Negri Sembilan director Capt (Maritime) Iskandar Ishak said the suspicious movement of a boat was detected through the Malaysian Maritime Sea Surveillance System (Swasla) before the MMEA's patrol vessel intercepted and detained all the foreigners at 1am on Wednesday (Oct 18).

"The boat with two 200HP engines each was spotted heading towards our shoreline before being intercepted about 0.7 nautical miles from Tanjung Rhu shoreline," he said.

Iskandar said the skipper of the boat was among those detained.

When asked to produce documents by the patrol unit, all foreigners aged 23 to 47, failed to do so.

“They were then brought to a jetty here and handed over to the Immigration Department for further action,” he said.
