Over RM3mil worth of meth seized during raids in Gombak, two nabbed

GOMBAK: Some 93.82kg of methamphetamine worth RM3.1mil were seized and two men arrested following raids near Batu Caves.

A local man, 34, and a 42-year-old Indonesian national were detained during the raids on Oct 15.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the local man was first arrested as police raided a parking lot in Batu Caves at about 9.35pm following a public tip off.

"We also inspected his car, which was parked nearby.

"We discovered four canvas bags filled with Chinese tea packets in the back seat. We also discovered more packets in the trunk.

"Upon opening the packets, it was actually filled with transparent bags of methamphetamine," he told a press conference at Gombak police headquarters on Wednesday (Oct 17).

Further investigation led police to an apartment nearby, where the Indonesian man was detained, he said.

"The local man works as a motorcycle mechanic while the Indonesian man was jobless.

"The local man has drug related offences in his criminal record," he said.

Comm Hussein said the duo were transporters for the drug syndicate.

"We believe the parking lot was used as a drop off point while the apartment was used as storage for the drugs.

"Investigation showed the drugs were supplied from a neighbouring country.

"The syndicate catered for the local market as well as overseas," he said.

The total methamphetamine seized was 93.82kg worth RM3.1mil, he said.

"The drugs could have been supplied to 187,648 users.

"We believe the syndicate has been active since early this year," he said.

The successful raids were a testament to the cooperation of the public, Comm Hussein said.

"We urge those with information on drug related activities to contact the Narcotic Crime Investigation Department (NCID) hotline at 012-2087222," he added.
