Motorcyclist killed, two seriously hurt in Johor bike crash

JOHOR BARU: A motorcyclist was killed and two others were seriously injured following an accident near Bandar IOI here.

Segamat OCPD Supt Ahmad Zamry Marinsah said the incident came to light when dashboard camera footage of the accident was uploaded on social media on Sunday (Oct 1).

He said that the footage showed three motorcycles speeding in the right lane, adding that the incident is believed to have taken place at KM180 of Jalan Johor Baru-Seremban near the Bandar IOI turn-off.

“The three motorcycles were speeding on the right lane before two of them rammed into another motorcycle that was on the left lane. The third motorcycle in the group managed to swerve away in time to avoid the pile-up,” he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 2).

In the video, the motorcyclists could be seen lying on the ground while motorcycle parts were strewn on the road.

Supt Ahmad Zamry added that one of the motorcyclists, a 21-year-old man, was pronounced dead while receiving medical treatment at Hospital Segamat while the two others aged 18 and 26 suffered severe injuries to their heads and bodies.

“The two survivors are currently placed in the red zone of the hospital. Investigations are ongoing and we hope that the owner of the dashboard camera and other witnesses can come forward and assist us by the Segamat police hotline at 07-9325811,” he added.
