23 MBPP councillors sworn in for 2023-2024 term


GEORGE TOWN: A total of 23 councillors have been sworn in to serve Penang Island City Council (MBPP) for the 2023-2024 term.

They will serve for 14 months from now until December next year.

The new line-up consists of ten from DAP, eight from PKR, four from Amanah and a member of a non-governmental organisation and 12 are new faces.

There is another vacancy, which is reserved for Umno.

In his speech, MBPP mayor Datuk A. Rajendran extended his greetings to the induction of 12 new councillors and 11 incumbents.

“The roles of council members are unquestionably rife with diverse challenges and dedication, with effective time management being imperative.

"Regardless of the situation, I am convinced that by collaborating as a united team for the welfare of the citizens, we will prevail over any hurdles and adversities and ultimately achieve success," he added.

Also present were Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and local government committee chairman H'ng Mooi Lye.
