Perikatan won with the people’s wave, says Shahidan

PETALING JAYA: It is the “people’s wave” and not the “green wave” that helped create support for Perikatan Nasional, says Perikatan politician Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (pic).

The Arau MP was responding to Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan’s remark on Thursday that Umno’s poor showing in GE15 was due to protest votes by its own members and not by the green wave.

“There was no green wave. It was the people’s wave.

“Even without the green wave, Perikatan managed to win 74 parliamentary seats in GE15,” he was quoted saying in local news portal during his campaign rounds for Perikatan’s Pelangai candidate Kasim Samat in Bentong yesterday.

Shahidan, who left Umno to join PAS, reminded Mohamad that Umno made a decision to forge friendship with its traditional enemy DAP.

This showed that Umno had gone astray from its core principles, he added.

“Most of the voters in Pelangai are Barisan people. They are silent voters, they want to vote but don’t want to make a fuss by raising all the Opposition flags.

“But they are not satisfied with Umno’s decision to stand with DAP,” he said, adding these silent voters would vote for Perikatan.
