Floods: Evacuees in Kedah increase to 1,457 as of noon on Sept 28


ALOR SETAR: The number of flood victims in four districts in Kedah climbed to 1,457 as of noon Thursday (Sept 28), from 1,220 at 8am.

The victims, from 451 families, are seeking shelter at 12 temporary relief centres – an increase from 372 families at 11 centres in the morning.

Kedah Civil Defence Force disaster management secretariat chief Major (PA) Muhammad Suhaimi Mohd Zain said the districts affected are Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Kota Setar and Baling.

"Pokok Sena has the most victims with 485 people from 137 families at three centres, followed by Baling, 383 victims from 124 families at three centres," he said in a statement.

He said there were 303 victims from 108 families at two centres in Kota Setar, and 286 victims from 82 families at four centres in Kubang Pasu.

He said the evacuees included 23 babies, 15 disabled people, and 167 senior citizens.

Major Muhammad Suhaimi added that officers and personnel from the Civil Defence Force were helping with logistics at all the centres and also monitoring the flooded areas.
