Simpang Jeram rep takes oath of office

NEWLY elected Simpang Jeram assemblyman Nazri Abdul Rahman took his oath of office during the Johor state assembly meeting at Bangunan Sultan Ismail here.

The swearing-in ceremony was held before Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi and was witnessed by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi along with other assemblymen yesterday.

Earlier, Mohd Puad, who is also Rengit assemblyman, offered condolences to the family of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who passed away on July 23.

Nazri won the recently concluded Simpang Jeram by-election with a 3,514 majority beating Perikatan Nasional’s Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan.

Nazri, who is also Bakri Amanah division deputy chief, received 13,844 votes while Dr Mohd Mazri got 10,330 votes. Meanwhile, Jeganathan garnered 311 votes.

Nazri was the head of the engineering department of the Muar Municipal Council before taking early retirement to run in the election.
