AN Opposition MP has suggested for Malaysia to emulate Singapore’s Group Representation Constituency (GRC) system to enhance representation of minority ethnicities in Parliament.
Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau) said it was time to reform the electoral system, noting that the present one was determined in 1957, when the Federal Constitution came into force. He also pointed out how bumiputras made up 70.1% of the Malaysian population, followed by the Chinese (22.6%) and Indian (6.6%).
