New Simpang Jeram assemblyman takes his oath of office


ISKANDAR PUTERI: Newly elected Simpang Jeram assemblyman Nazri Abdul Rahman has taken his oath of office during the Johor state assembly meeting held at Bangunan Sultan Ismail Building, here.

The swearing-in ceremony was held before Johor State Speaker Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi and was witnessed by Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and other state assemblymen on Thursday (Sept 14).

Earlier, Mohd Puad, who was also Rengit assemblyman, offered condolences to the family of the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who passed away on July 23.

He won the recently concluded Simpang Jeram by-election with a 3,514 majority beating Perikatan Nasional’s Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan.

Nazri, who was also Bakri Amanah division deputy chief, received 13,844 votes while Perikatan’s Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya got 10,330 votes and Jeganathan garnered 311 votes.

Nazri was the head of the engineering department of the Muar Municipal Council before taking early retirement to run in the election.
