By-election: Perikatan's candidate congratulates Nazri on win

MUAR: Do your best for the people of Simpang Jeram, Perikatan Nasional's Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya (pic) told the newly elected assemblyman of the state seat.

In a statement on Facebook, Dr Mazri congratulated Pakatan Harapan's Nazri Abdul Rahman for successfully winning the seat with a 3,514 majority.

"I would like to congratulate Nazri and Pakatan for retaining this seat.

"Do the best for the betterment of the people of Simpang Jeram regardless of their political views or race," he said in a Facebook post here.

He added that he was also glad for being able to increase the number of votes Perikatan received in the by-election.

"Although victory was not on Perikatan's side, I am satisfied as we are able to increase the number of votes we received compared to the previous election.

"I strongly believe that today's decision is a signal that only with the unity of the Malays will we be able to ensure our state and country will be administered well.

"It is also prove that the people of Johor only choose leaders who are clean, caring and stable," he said.

He also thanked those who had voted for Perikatan in the election.

Earlier, Election Commission returning officer Jamil Hasni Abdullah announced that Nazri had won the Simpang Jeram by-election.

Nazri received 13,844 while Perikatan Nasional's Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya received 10,330 votes.

Meanwhile, independent candidate S. Jeganathan gathered 311 votes.
