Tunku Ampuan Najihah passes away


SEREMBAN: Former Tunku Ampuan Negri Sembilan Tunku Ampuan Najihah Tunku Besar Burhanuddin passed away at the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Hospital in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (Sept 8) morning. She was 100.

State secretary Datuk Mohd Zafir Ibrahim said the consort of the former Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negri Sembilan Tuanku Ja'afar Tuanku Abdul Rahman breathed her last at 6.53am.

Tuanku Najihah was also the nation's 10th Permaisuri Agong from 1994-1999.

"Her remains would be placed at the Istana Besar Seri Menanti and laid to rest at the Seri Menanti royal mausoleum after Asar prayers today," he said in a statement.

Mohd Zafir said the state will observe a one-day mourning period on Sept 8 following her passing.

He said all flags in the state must be flown at half-mast during the mourning period.

"Mosques and surau in the state are also encouraged to hold tahlil prayers during the duration," he added.

Tuanku Ja'afar was the Yang di-Pertuan Besar from 1967 till his passing in December 2008 and the nation’s 10th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
