Police: Don’t share crash images online

BATU CAVES: Police have warned the public not to share videos of victims involved in the plane crash on the Guthrie Highway near Bandar Elmina in Shah Alam last Thursday, says deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay.

“The police have concluded their role. Investigations into the cause of the crash were handed over to the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).

“I also urge all to not spread videos and photos of the crash. Respect the privacy of the victims,” he said, adding that those with videos of the incident should instead share those with the police.

The deputy IGP was speaking to reporters after the burial of Pelangai assemblyman and Pahang exco member Datuk Seri Johari Harun at the Raudhatul Sakinah burial ground here.

He urged members of the public not to speculate on the matter.

“There are a lot of theories out there, so that is why I say do not speculate.

“We will take action under Section 233 (Communications and Multimedia Act 1998) if there are those that still spread those (videos and pictures). I think the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has also released a statement on the matter, and this is the statement from the police; if we find more, we will take action under 233,” he said.

He added that several people had already been called to give their statements over such photos and videos that went viral.

“We have already called three people over the spread of these videos. They came willingly, but if more continue to do so, we will take action,” he said, adding that their statements were recorded at the Shah Alam police headquarters.
