PORT KLANG: Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM) is fielding eight candidates for Selangor in the upcoming state elections including four who are part of the party’s main leadership.

Leading the charge were the party’s deputy president Datuk Mohamad Ezam Mohd Nor, vice-president Manikavasigam Sundram, information chief Tan Kang Yap and assistant secretary general Syed Ahmad Putra Syed Isa.

Mohamad Ezam a former senator and ex-PKR youth chief will be contesting for the Selat Klang seat and face incumbent Abdul Rashid Asari (Bersatu) and contested by Roslee Abd Hamid.

Former Kapar assemblyman Manikavasigam will contest in Sentosa where he will face incumbent Gunarajah George (PKR) with Parameswaran Ganason (Gerakan) and Thanusha Ramanieswaran (Muda).

Tan will contest in Pandamaran, going up against incumbent Leong Tuck Chee (DAP) and Gunalan Balakrishnan (Bersatu).

PRM secretary-general Koh Swe Yong announced the candidates at the party’s state election war room in Port Klang before handing over the appointment letters.

Koh said even by fielding a small number of candidates, he hoped Selangorians would give PRM the chance to play the role of 'auditor' in the state.

"We won’t form the state government, but we will champion the voice of the people and ensure that subsidies are retained and people’s welfare is prioritised."

Mohamad Ezam, Manikavasigam and Tan had contested for the party in previous elections, while the other candidates were contesting under PRM for the first time.

Syed Ahmad is contesting in Pelabuhan Klang against incumbent Azmizam Zaman Huri (PKR) and Wan Hasrina Wan Hassan (PAS).

The remaining four candidates are Ahmad Fahmi Hanapiah (Sg.Kandis), Gunasekaran Kuppan (Kota Kemuning), Chng Boon Lai (Kuala Kubu Baharu) and Deligannu Allagan (Dengkil).
