Elderly pedestrian killed while crossing road near JB


JOHOR BARU: A pedestrian was killed and another injured when a motorcycle knocked them down as they were crossing Jalan Kota Tinggi-Johor Baru here.

Seri Alam deputy OCPD Deputy Supt Dr Mohd Roslan Mohd Tahir said a 70-year-old man and 50-year-old woman were hit at KM19 at 6.20am on Thursday (July 27).

"The male victim was severely injured in the head and face. He was rushed to Hospital Sultan Ismail but pronounced dead while receiving emergency treatment.

"The woman was injured and sent to the same hospital," he said in a statement, adding that she was categorised as a yellow zone (semi-critical) case.

He added that the 36-year-old motorcyclist broke his right arm and was being treated at a private hospital in Seri Alam.

DSP Mohd Roslan said the incident was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death.

He also reminded the public to follow road rules and regulations especially during peak hour to avoid accidents and loss of life.
