State polls: PKR to contest 20 seats in S'gor, rapper Altimet gets nod in Lembah Jaya

SHAH ALAM: Caretaker Selangor mentri besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari will defend his Sungai Tua seat in the upcoming Selangor state elections while rapper Altimet, whose real name is Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad, will be fielded as the candidate for Lembah Jaya.

Meanwhile, three-term Bukit Lanjan assemblyman Elizabeth Wong has been dropped as a candidate and will be replaced by Phua Pei Lei.

Najwan Halimi, who courted controversy recently over a racial remark, was retained as the candidate for Kota Anggerik.

Meanwhile, Negri Sembilan caretaker mentri besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun will contest the Sikamat seat.

In announcing the PKR candidates list on Saturday (July 22), Prime Minister and Pakatan Harapan chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Amirudin and Aminuddin will remain as Pakatan’s Mentri Besar candidates for Selangor and Negri Sembilan, respectively.

He said the decision was taken after considering the performance of the leaders and how approachable they were to the people.

“Amirudin is among the more successful MBs in the country,” Anwar said.

Similarly, DAP’s Chow Kon Yeow will be the chief minister candidate for Penang.

“PKR also welcomes the (DAP’s) decision for Chow to be appointed as chief minister because of his performance,” he added.

On Aminuddin, he said the discussions to reach a decision took a while. He said the coalition decided that there is need for continuity.

He said Pakatan had also conveyed its decision to Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Anwar said PKR’s strength does not solely lie with him and the top leadership but also the strength of the state leadership.

Nomination day for the six state polls is slated to take place on July 29 and polling is scheduled for Aug 12.
