Man charged with murdering three-year-old


MELAKA: A 25-year-old man has been charged with the murder of a three-year-old boy.

No plea was recorded when the charge against Muhammad Firman Hakimie Abdul Rahman was read before Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman yesterday at a Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh.

Based on the statement of facts, the accused had allegedly murdered the child at a house in Jalan PE 15, Taman Paya Emas, Cheng in the Melaka Tengah district between 5.30am and 6.30am on July 6.

The charge was framed under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries a possible death penalty upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor was Wardah Ishhar while counsel Datuk Hanif Hassan represented the accused.

The court fixed Aug 23 as the next mention date.

There had been media reports about a woman’s boyfriend allegedly killing her son by hitting and kicking him for staining a sofa.

Meanwhile, the victim’s biological mother Nurasyiqin Syaqiqah A. Ramlee, 24, claimed trial at a Sessions Court here yesterday for allegedly causing physical or emotional injuries to a child.

The charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act was read before Judge Darmafikri Abu Adam. This provides for a maximum fine of RM50,000 or jail of up to 20 years, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor N. Sivashangari prosecuted while counsel Umar Zulkarnain acted for the accused.

The court granted bail of RM15,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to report to the police on the first day of each month until the case has been disposed.

The court also fixed Aug 23 for the next mention.
