JOHOR BARU: Police have launched a manhunt for a male suspect following a case of a policeman being stabbed while patrolling the areas along Jalan Ungku Puan here.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the incident occurred at 2.30am on Monday (July 10) when a police patrol team was conducting surveillance under Ops Tapis Khas.
“The patrol was conducted by an officer with five policemen.
“The team spotted three individuals behaving in a suspicious manner and believed they were involved in drug activities at a parking lot near Jalan Ungku Puan," he said in a statement.
ACP Raub said police approached them to carry out an inspection before one of the suspects stabbed the back of a police constable during a scuffle.
The 22-year-old constable suffered a deep wound on his left rib.
“The suspect managed to escape as the rest of the team were inspecting the other two men.
"The injured personnel is receiving treatment at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital and currently in a stable condition," he said.
ACP Raub said the case would be investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt.
Police are now looking for a man who was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, black jeans, a pair of slippers, a black snowcap and a black face mask.
