PETALING JAYA: A woman was found drowned after falling from a boat that stopped suddenly in the Kg Hutan Hulu River near Tumpat on Friday (June 30).
Her husband and their nephew are still missing after the 6.45pm incident, Malay language daily Sinar Harian reports.
Tumpat OCPD Asst Comm Amran Dolah told Sinar Harian that the victim had been identified as Nor Awadah Sulong, 30.
"The victim's husband, Wan Muhamad Najmi Wan Taib, also 30, and their 10-year-old nephew Amrullah Fitri Afendi are still missing.
"The victim's daughter, who was also on the boat in the incident, was saved after managing to cling to the boat's steering," he said.
ACP Amran told Sinar that the victims were relaxing with a boat ride on the river when the engine suddenly stopped and they were thrown into the river.
He added that the victim's remains had been brought to Tumpat Hospital for a post mortem.
Meanwhile, Wakaf Baru Fire and Rescue station operations commander Nazah Nafi told Sinar Harian that underwater searches by the Water Rescue Team would continue Saturday (July 1) morning while surface searches of the river and its surroundings would continue into the night.
Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Ahmad Yakob was also at the location to find out more about the incident and meet with the victims' family.
