KOTA KINABALU: Miss World Malaysia which was held here last year, will return in August with various programmes lined up including supporting charities.

The grand finals would be held on Aug 25 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) with an anticipated turnout of 1,500, where a fundraising gala will follow the next day.

Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Minister Datuk Christina Liew when announcing the Ministry’s full support of the events, said the Miss World Malaysia Organisation was also engaging with Kota Kinabalu City Hall in programmes to support beneficiaries in need.

"The Miss World Malaysia 2023 Beauty Festival is not positioned as a beauty pageant - it is an immersive experience for empowerment; blending beauty, talent, intellect and philanthropy.

"We are thrilled that these remarkable contestants will engage in a multitude of charity activities and projects.

"Throughout the Miss World Malaysia beauty festival week, the finalists will also embark on an inspiring journey, immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Sabah's culture and exploring its most impressive destinations," said Liew, adding that one of the locations would be the popular Mantanani Island.

"It is our hope that the fans and followers of these exceptional beauty queens will fall in love with Sabah, appreciating its vibrant culture, breathtaking landscapes and the boundless opportunities it offers for businesses to thrive," she added during the press conference for the event here on Wednesday (June 28).

Meanwhile, Miss World Malaysia national director Dr Sean Wong said the contestants would spend nine days immersed in a series of exhilarating challenges and activities, including fashion shows, talent showcases, charity drives, head-to-head challenges and sports competitions.

This year's Miss World Malaysia events will also be captured in a six-episode reality series available exclusively on iQIYI platform, the official broadcasting partner, he added.

Wong also revealed that reigning Miss World 2022, Karolina Bielawska and Miss World Malaysia 2022, Wenanita Angang, would be attending the grand finals to witness the crowning of Miss World Malaysia 2023.

On the Hyperlive Festival Malaysia Charity Gala and Awards Dinner on Aug 26, Wong said the gala aims to make a significant difference by supporting deserving beneficiaries and channeling raised funds towards causes that are dear to the organisers, directly impacting the lives of those in need.
