Explicit videos being sold on messaging app

A POPULAR messaging platform is being used to sell explicit videos of young Malay girls to clients who are believed to be local men, Mingguan Malaysia reported.

So far, the daily has detected about 2,400 such clips being sold to more than 1,600 clients through a special group on the messaging platform that was infiltrated by a reporter from the Malay daily.

Malaysian Cyber Consumers Association president Siraj Jalil said some of the videos might have initially been made by couples for personal use.

“When the relationship ended, one of them betrayed the other and spread the videos. Some irresponsible parties then took the opportunity to sell the videos,” he said.

“There may also be instances where women are blackmailed into making explicit videos of themselves.”

He urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and the police to investigate this matter.

> Actress Scha Alyahya is shocked after being labelled rude on Twitter, which has a trend that classifies artistes as either “rude” or “polite”.

Scha, whose real name is Sharifah Nor Azean Syed, 40, admitted that she might have at times unconsciously not smiled or failed to greet others.

“As human beings, it is impossible for us not to make mistakes. But being called rude, I am far from that,” she told Metro Ahad.

“I get peeved and do not like rude and snobbish people because, for me, there is no need (to act that way). At the end of the day, we are all the same,” she said, apologising if she had unknowingly slighted her fans or anyone else.As for the trend on Twitter, Scha described it as a game.

“The trends on Twitter are sometimes okay, sometimes not. Just don’t be too obsessed to the point of passing judgement on that person.

“Be careful with what we say, share or label people. This is because you might not see the effect and think of it as a game, but it does have an impact on the person being targeted,” she said.
