PETALING JAYA: The Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (Bersih) calls on the Election Commission (EC) to immediately allow eligible voters to apply as postal voters for the coming six state elections.

"The EC need not wait until all the state assemblies are dissolved especially for those in category 1B - Malaysian citizens living abroad.

"It should be noted that the number of category 1B postal voters increased by 600% from 7,979 in the 14th General Election (GE14) to 48,109 8n GE15," said Bersih in a statement Thursday (June 1).

It said opening applications for postal voting early will allow more voters to apply and likely raise voter turnout for the state election, a constitutional responsibility of the EC.

"Bersih also proposes that category 1C postal voters, which are those working for agencies or organisations authorised by the EC, should be extended to health and safety personnel working in the private sector such as private hospitals," it said.
