Blaze destroys two classrooms, offices in Batu Pahat school


BATU PAHAT: A secondary school in Parit Raja here was damaged in a fire late Thursday (May 31).

Ayer Hitam Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Shamin Mohamed Salikin said the fire broke out at SMK Tun Ismail and destroyed two classrooms as well as the school and principal's office.

He said the incident was reported at 9.52pm and 16 firemen in two fire engines were deployed to the scene.

"The fire affected the second floor of the two-storey building.

"It was under control by 10.30pm. We are still assessing the damages and identifying the cause of the fire," he added.
