Bangladeshi killed in freak accident at Sungai Besi construction site

KUALA LUMPUR: A freak accident at a construction site killed one foreign worker after construction material fell on him at a site along Jalan Sungai Besi in Salak Selatan on Friday (May 26).

Cheras OCPD Asst Comm Zam Halim Jamaluddin said that the police were alerted at 12.32pm.

“The police received a call regarding the death of a Bangladeshi worker at the site. When at the scene the police found that pile foundation casings that were being carried by a crane to be inserted into a hole had inadvertently fallen and crushed the victim,” he said.

“The 35-year-old victim died at the scene and investigations showed no signs of foul play,” added ACP Zam Halim.

He said that statements from workers and management from the construction site have been taken and added that an investigation is underway.

“We will investigate all angles. It is too early to determine if negligence was involved but it is an angle that we will investigate,” he said.

This was the first time a fatal accident had been reported at the site.

The victim, a legal foreign worker, had been in the country for nearly six months.
